5th Year Reunion and Upcoming Activities

We just completed our 5th year reunion. Wow, what fun. There was alot of good training over the 4 day period. The SPKF knife fighting was a blast with Chief Pat and Breaze pretty much coming to a draw. For those of you that could not make the reunion, you missed out! Congradulations to Sr. Maestro Breaze on his promotion to Chief Maestro Instructor, your martial abilities and support of our school is acknowledged in your promotion. Events coming up later this year are the Maui Open Tournament scheduled for October 24th in Maui. We are also planning a December trip to the Big Island of Hawaii to visit the volcano and observe GGM Pedoy's ceremony to honor Madam Pele. This is a once a year tradition that has been going on since the mid 80's. Exact dates for the BI trip will be announced later this year. Remember train hard and train safe and keep it as real as possible.

S.P.K.F. and 2nd Maui Open Tournament

A big mahalo to everyone that attended or participated in our 2nd Annual Maui Open Tournament. The competition was great in all areas of the tournament. The level of competitition in the Caranza/Forms and (HOPE) padded stick divisions was great with many excellent bouts. The S.P.K.F. was popular with the competitors and the audience had a great time. I think the popularity of S.P.K.F. will grow once the competitors lean how to fight in this type of competition. Most of the fighters tended to wade in and take a lot of hits, while delivering hopefully more hits. The average score for the competitors was 130-150 hits, which is a lot of contact. Where as with those of us that have fought over a 100 rounds tend to have 60 or less hits per 2 rounds. S.P.K.F. is a new competition art form where defensive movements are required in order to win. It will take a little training, but even during the initial bouts of S.P.K.F. we could see some of the competitors starting to take notice of their defense. We thank eveyone for their great sportmanship and willingness to try something new. We plan to hold a S.P.K.F tournament in early 2009 in Waimanalo. If anyone wants to work on their S.P.K.F skills we train on (most) Saturday afternoons at the Old Stadium Park. Check with us for training times. If you come to fight, be sure you bring a foam helmet so we can attach a solid face shield. Aloha, Master Ron..
